This Privacy Policy explains how the ListenR mobile application ("ListenR", "the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use it. We are committed to processing personal data lawfully and transparently, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable laws.
The data controller responsible for your personal data is the operator of ListenR. For any privacy-related request you can reach us through our contact form or the in-app "Contact Us" feature.
ListenR is designed for data minimisation. We do not require you to create an account and we do not collect your name, email address, or phone number unless you voluntarily provide them by contacting us. We collect:
Your learning data — word lists, study progress, spaced-repetition state, and preferences — is stored locally on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6) |
|---|---|
| Operating the App, registering your device, and enforcing free-tier limits | Performance of a contract / legitimate interest |
| Processing subscriptions and trials | Performance of a contract |
| Sending study-reminder notifications | Consent (you can disable notifications at any time) |
| Diagnostics, crash reporting, and product improvement | Legitimate interest |
| Preventing fraud and abuse of free trials/limits | Legitimate interest |
We share limited data with the following processors, each of which acts under its own privacy policy:
We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
Our servers are hosted on Microsoft Azure infrastructure in Western Europe. Some of our processors (e.g., OneSignal, RevenueCat, Sentry, Google) may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where this occurs, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
We retain device-registration data for as long as the App is installed or until you ask us to delete it. When you request deletion, we remove your device data from our servers; the process is completed within 30 days, and afterwards no data remains that could identify you or your device. Two narrow exceptions apply: (a) we may keep a single non-identifying, irreversible token where necessary to prevent abuse of free trials or to comply with legal obligations, and (b) if you reported a problem with a word or translation, we keep only the content of that report (the word and the issue) after stripping all device identifiers from it — so the fix benefits all learners, while the report can no longer be linked to you.
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability and to withdraw consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
You can delete all of your data directly in the App via Settings → Delete my data, or by sending a request through our contact form.
All communication between the App and our servers is encrypted over HTTPS. We apply industry-standard security measures to protect your data, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
ListenR is not directed to children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced within the App, and the "Last updated" date above will be revised.
For any privacy questions or requests, use our contact form.
